If you want to point a domain that you have to another domain name or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is directed to. By doing this, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the website you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the visitors from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that such a record set up for the main domain makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.
CNAME Records in Hosting
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which we provide with each and every Linux hosting, will enable you to create CNAME records for every domain address or subdomain hosted inside the account with just a few mouse clicks. If you're not sure how to go about it, you should check the video tutorial available in the CP, read the detailed Help article on the subject, or just simply contact us and we will help you 24/7, even though it is unlikely you'll experience any problems as all it takes to create a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, input the hostname that you're redirecting to, and save the modification. The new record is going to be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control of your domain names and site content and our system is simple and intuitive enough to allow people with no previous experience to create such records easily.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server from our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it takes no more than a couple of mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed using our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will discover a section committed to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted in the account. To set up a CNAME record, you'll simply have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type in where the latter will be redirected to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Changing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and easy and takes a click. In the event you experience any troubles, you can go through our comprehensive help article, see the short video on the topic that we have added in the Control Panel, or you can simply contact us for assistance.
